The Official opening of the Irish Nepalese Educational Trust (INET) Annual Art exhibition and sale was held in the Law Library, Distillery Building on Monday 13th Dec.
Action Photography is once again proud to support the work that INET does in Nepal and contribute to it though the sale of some of our images.

The Second of two races in the Tuff traxs Duathlon series took place in the grounds of Kilruddery House on the outskirts of Bray on Sunday 12th Dec.

The course was revised slightly due to ice on some of the roads and trails remaining from the recent cold weather. The course was just as challenging and muddy as the previous race and the general consensus was that it was a great race.

Winner in the Sport race was Barry Donnelly in a time of 1:05:39 ahead of John Mc Donnell (1:05:54) and Tim Grumell (1:07:38) in third place. In the Women's race Wicklow Tri's Deborah Meehan (1:15:24) proved strongest lady again taking the first place ahead of Joanna Cullen (1:21:19) and Louise Cullen (1:23:13).

In the Expert section Niall Davis set a new Course Record of 1:52:50 ahead of Adrian Hennessy (1:54:55) who also improved on his previous time to take the second place position. Damien Shaw ( 2:01:26) took the third position on the podium. IMRA's Melanie Earwaker (2:31:55) repeated her winning performance in the ladies race ahead of Rachel Cinnsellach (3:15:50).

The first of two races in the Tuff traxs Duathlon series took place in the grounds of Kilruddery House on the outskirts of Bray on Sunday 21st Nov.

The course was challenging after heavy overnight rain giving the course an extra edge with the muddy terrain. The general consensus was that it was a great course and location and worth signing up for the next race on the 12th Dec.

Winner in the Sport race was The A Team's Stuart Montgomery in a diving finish just ahead of the fastest biker Cathal De Barra (Both 1:04:23) with Eamon Lenihan (1:07:11) in third just 2 seconds ahead of the unlucky fastest runner Anthony Boyle who only lost out on third place when missing the final turn for the finish transition. Wicklow Tri's Deborah Meehan (1:13:56) proved strongest lady ahead of Nessa Smyth (1:17:29) and Ciara Mulvey (1:18:57).

In the Expert section Naas Tri's Dave Duke (1:56:09) survived a late bike tumble to take the victory ahead of Peter O Farrell (1:56:50) and Adrian Hennessy (1:58:28) whilst just behind our sponsor Mick Jordan proved strongest of the vets setting the fastest bike leg of the day (great bikes from Cycle Inn Obviously) coming in fourth just ahead of the unlucky chain breaking John Doris and the ever smiling Johnny Mc Cabe. IMRA's Melanie Earwaker (2:30:01) performed impressively to win in the ladies race ahead of Aideen Keenan (3:05:37).

Daragh Muldowney of Dulra photography launched his new book "Jewellery Box - Irelands Hidden Gems" and an exhibition of the images for the book at the Back loft gallery - Cathedral Studios,in Dublin's Liberties.
The exhibiion was opened by Emmy award winning wildlife cinematographer Colin Stafford Johnson to a packed gallery.

The first round of the Causeway Coast Adventure Racing winter series was held in Dartrey Forrest, Co. Monaghan on a course taking in forest trails both on foot and bike, Kayaking and a few Tasks.

The 2nd Run-a-Muck race was held in the grounds of Clonkeeran House, near Johnstown Bridge, Co Kildare. The Runamuck Challenge is a cross country running event over a wet and mucky course with various man made and natural obstacles including bale "jumps", net scrambles, tarzan swings, rope bridges, ditchs, streams, tyres and tunnels designed to test both mental and physical strength.

The Athlone 3/4 Marathon was held on a Certified Course of 19.664 miles / 31.646 km starting and finishing at the Glasson Hotel & Golf Club(www.glassongolfhotel.ie) near the village of Glasson, just outside Athlone. The course offered magnificent lakeside views around Lough Ree, quite country roads, and produced a new Irish record for the distance. Click here for details and galleries of images.

Sept. 19th, 2010 The British and Irish Junior Mountain running Championship took place on Sunday 19th of September with competitors from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales taking part in misty/rainy conditions.

The Second Achill ROAR Adventure Race took place on Saturday 11th of September with 700 competitors taking part in the sport and expert races. Both races involved an open water swim or Kayak, a beach and mountain run followed by a road cycle all on and around Achill Island, Co. Mayo. The weather was a major factor in the outcome of the races with high wind, showers and sunshine alternating through the day.

The Dublin City Triathlon was held in the Phoenix park and river liffey on Sunday 29th of August 2010. Organised by the Piranha Triathlon Club. Galleries of race images available here.

This benefit hill run on the trails around the hellfire club was organised by Ger Power and IMRA to raise funds for The David Foundation, a charity which builds houses for people with disability in Lesotho.
80 runners and supporters turned out and raised over 1,000 euros for the foundation. The race followed the traditional route with the runners passing the Hellfire club building twice before heading downhill for a fast finish.

This year's race was won by Padraig Marrey in a time of 3:36:51 just nine seconds ahead of last year's winner, Peter O' Farrell. Tomas O Dowd arrived in two minutes 56 seconds behind Peter to take the third position. Action Photography was taking photos at the end of the run section for Sleepmonster/RandR photography and these will be available for sale via the GaelForce site. site later this week.

Gael force West is the largest one day adventure race of its kind in the world. The 2010 event took place on Saturday August 21st.It is a multi-sport adventure race involving cycling, running, hiking and kayaking. The course of approximately 65km stretches across Co. Mayo from the stunning Glassilaun beach to Westport. En route there are some significant obstacles to cross, including Killary Harbour and the famous holy mountain of Croagh Patrick.

This benefit hill race up Tibradden was organised by Gearoid Towey of Basecamp and IMRA to raise funds for The Bubblegum Club, a nationwide charity dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged and ill children.
Using the traditional Wednesday Leinster League format and it attracted 91 runners looking for an end of season blow out and to raise funds for a worthy cause. Prizes were donated by Basecamp and inovat-8.

The final race of the Series was held in less than ideal conditions in Howth on Monday 16th Aug.
The shorter race was hard fought with Neill Kelly coming home just 16 sec ahead of David Kildea and Series Winner Erasmus Frantisek in third. In the ladies short course section the winner was Debbie Burke who had only 5 seconds to spare over Amy Brogan with Geraldine O Shea in third.

In the longer race the predicted battle up front between the two previous winners Kevin Keane and Tell Coura turned out to be a battle for the minor placings as newcomer 19 year old John Reidy led out of the water by almost 3 minutes and held onto that lead with the second fastest run split to come home a whopping 3mins 34sec clear of Keane who came through in the final stages of the run to head Series winner Coura by 10 seconds.

In the ladies race the positions of previous races were again reversed as two time second placed Linda Clark held onto her swim lead to take the win over the fast running Lorna Wolfe and the Series winner Barbara O Hanrahan in third.

Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imall Mountain Rescue Team in association with IMRA organised the end of Season Mountain Rescue Benefit Hill Run. Mountain Rescue in Ireland is a voluntary service, and depends on fund raising for most of its operating income. Between the two teams they respond to about 50 callouts per annum and cover an operational area from the Cooley Mountains down to South Wicklow. The Homeless Gallery opened on the 4th of July in D-Light Studios, 46 North Great Clarence Street, Dublin 1. The exhibition is part of the first Photo Ireland Festival and is open to the public from Sunday 4th, 11.00am till Wednesday 7th of July. Action Photography joined a mixture of national and international Photographers to present a broad range of work to the public. Link to images

Action Photography will have a number of prints in the "Homeless Gallery" exhibition in D-Light Studios,46 North Great Clarence Street, Dublin 1. The exhibition is part of the first Photo Ireland Festival and is open to the public from Sunday 4th, 11.00am till Wednesday 7th of July.

The Strawberry Half Marathon held on Sunday 27nd of June 2010 in association with Slaney Olympic AC. As part of the Enniscorthy 1500 Year Celebrations, the race started and finished in the center of Enniscorthy and covered a course taking in the surrounding countryside.

Dingle Adventure race Multisport Event is a one day Multi Activity Adventure Race consisting of Bike, Hike, Run and Kayak. The 26 mile/ 42km course took in some of the gems of the Dingle peninsula in Co. Kerry.
The course included biking over the Conor Pass, Ireland's highest mountain pass, followed by climbing Ireland's second highest Mountain, Mt Brandon then running the country roads of the peninsula back to Dingle ending with a kayaky across the Harbour.

The Dublin Bach Singers with conductor Blanaid Murphy preformed a programme which included Monteverdi: Beatus Vir, Pergolesi: Stabat Mater (highlights), Haydn: Little Organ Mass (highlights), Pieces by Palestrina, Tallis, Mozart, Mendelssohn. There were some fine solos by choir members and some lighter material.
The concert lasted just over an hour and was followed by a wine and cheese reception.

Road Biking, Off-Road Running and Kayaking, held on Saturday 22nd of May 2010 based in the grounds of the Tulfarris Hotel at the south end of the Blessington Lakes and covering a course taking in the surrounding hills and lakes.

Runners, joggers and walkers of all standards took part in this year's 10th Annual Docklands 8km Fun Run. Commencing at 7.45pm from GrandCanal dock they followed the circular route along the south quays to Ringsend across the east link bridge before heading back towards the city center along the north quays before turning back across the Liffey for second time at the Matt Talbot bridge and heading back along the south quays to finish in at GrandCanal square.

Billed as the "Roughest race" on the IMRA calendar, Ben Gorm in County Mayo attracted a hardy field of 32 runners, two summit marshals and a photographer.

This morning John attended the IPPA and presented his panel of images to support his application for Licentiateship. At Lunch time he was informed that he had successfully fulfilled the requirements and was granted Licentiateship of the association.

On Thursday morning we took the DraganFlyer X6 for a test flight. It was not a great morning from a photographic point of view, with low mist and near freezing air temperatures but we did get to experience controlling a camera which was hovering 50 metres above us. Trevor from Air2air flew the Dragan while John from Action Photography operated the camera via video link to his digital goggles.
